The ACTP Tutor Trainer Certification program is designed for higher education professionals who provide training for tutors. Directors and coordinators would benefit immensely as well.
This training and certification takes place during ACTP's annual conference.
Trainers receive ACTPs professional certification at the annual conference following the full training over three days. Training focuses on equipping tutor trainers with a comprehensive, evidenced-based approach to Learning Assistance.

Session Overview: Have you ever worked with a student who stares at a blank screen for hours, rewrites the same paragraph ten times, or keeps getting sidetracked? We call it procrastination, perfectionism, distractibility—but what if those are just the tip of the iceberg? Behind the scenes, many are battling invisible barriers to starting, focusing, and finishing academic tasks. Whether these challenges stem from ADHD, anxiety, perfectionism, or simply the demands of college life, the strategies in this session apply broadly—and effectively.
This hands-on preconference intensive gives coaches the tools to help students ignite motivation, sustain focus, and drive tasks to completion. Attendees walk away with a ready-to-use toolkit for immediate impact.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming higher education, and academic support professionals are uniquely positioned to harness its potential to enhance tutoring and academic coaching practices. This interactive preconference session will explore how AI tools can be ethically and effectively integrated into tutoring and coaching to improve student learning, increase engagement, and strengthen academic skill development.
Participants will examine practical applications of AI in academic support, including using AI for study strategy development, writing assistance, metacognitive reflection, and personalized learning support. The session will also address critical issues such as academic integrity, ethical use, bias in AI systems, and how to guide students in using AI as a learning partner rather than a shortcut.
Through demonstrations, case studies, and hands-on exploration, attendees will learn how tutors and coaches can leverage AI tools to scaffold student learning, promote critical thinking, and support self-regulated learning. The session will also provide strategies for training staff and developing policies that align AI use with institutional values and student success goals.
